are a great way to get things done quickly. In the world of mobile
phones and social networking, texting abbreviations are vital and
commonplace, so too are the symbols and shortcuts we use on our

There are
many different symbols that we need to use on a daily
basis but unfortunately they all do not appear as standard on our
keyboard! The term 'a picture speaks a thousand words' is an ideal way
to describe a symbol. A simple picture or image can convey a message
often too complicated to be explained in several sentences and the need
to incorporate different symbols in our written work whether it be a
document, email, tweet or status update means that it is vital we know
how to access these hidden and special characters on our computer
keyboard! It would be impossible and confusing for every keyboard to
display every symbol that it can produce, that is where symbol codes are essential! There are literally of
thousands of symbol codes which can be entered on a standard keyboard to
produce a huge range of additional characters, a small selection of the
most popular codes are shown in the table below with their HTML code:

ALT Symbol Codes - How to add an ALT Symbol Code
The table below list all the ALT keys for windows computers.
To enter an ALT code, simply follow these instructions:

Ensure that the the Num Lock key has been pressed to activate
the numeric key section of the keyboard

Press the Alt key
-
While the
Alt key is held down, type the sequence of numbers (on the numeric
keypad) using the ALT code from the table below

Once you release the Alt key, the character will appear

On a laptop computer, there usually
is no numeric keypad
-
To add ALT characters to documents using a laptop,
press the Fn (function) key, then the Alt key, then the numerical code
sequence
